If only you would give yourself a break

I often say this to clients, friends, family members, and even strangers in the community. Imagine if we could give ourselves a break now and then from the continuous self-evaluation, drive for perfection, and its cousins. Myself and others on this spinning planet, we can all, from time to time, take a breath and let it go on the exhale. Life is trying enough with external forces disturbing our peace, removing us from stolen lands, and attacking us because we look, talk, and walk differently. Must we collude with external...angry birds...for additional punishment? I vote no.

If you must criticize, evaluate, or expect better, then the question I hope you're asking yourself is Am I directing this at the right target?

My process for giving myself a break is publishing this website as it has been a year in the making. Many changes, many months, and much deliberation later, I believe it is good enough.

I can't promise to post regularly, but I promise to post from the heart. (Corny, I know.)

End-of-the-year checklist

Outside of writing progress notes and assessment reports, I write things down to sort my thoughts—and, more importantly, to remind myself of everything. Chores for the weekend. Groceries for the week.
