End-of-the-year checklist

Outside of writing progress notes and assessment reports, I write things down to sort my thoughts—and, more importantly, to remind myself of everything.

Chores for the weekend. Groceries for the week. Compassionate thinking. Deliteralizing. And, not to totally spoil this for you, a good chunk of my checklists involves dwelling in the things that bring me inexplicable joy and naming how grateful I am for the life I have.

Recently, I spent some time reflecting on the year I had—reviewing meaningful moments from the past 355 days. Looking at my life this way helped me see it more holistically. It made space to acknowledge the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Checklist:

  1. Spend quality time with loved ones (and hug them and squeeze them and tease them)

  2. Dwell in happiness and gratitude

  3. Acknowledge the hard work I’ve done this past year

  4. Acknowledge the heartbreaks this past year

  5. Grow taller

  6. Appreciate my health

  7. Be gentle with myself

  8. Survive Medicare provider enrollment

  9. Show up for myself, my work, my community, my fellow transient beings

  10. Publish another blog for my website

That's my list. It felt satisfying to write it down. You may resonate with some of this. You may want to have a little fun and make one yourself. What would be on your list?

As always, this comes from the heart.

Until next time.
